Terms and conditions
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of UniSell (“UniSell”, “we”, “us”), operated by UniSell Enterprise, a business registered in Malaysia. By creating an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not register for or use UniSell.
1. Eligibility & accounts
UniSell is currently open only to students at participating universities. You register with a personal email address and choose your university; we confirm both your student status and your university when you verify your identity. Anyone may browse UniSell, but buying, selling and messaging require identity verification (Section 8). You must provide accurate information when registering and are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential. You may hold only one account. You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract under Malaysian law to use UniSell.
2. What UniSell is (and isn't)
UniSell is a platform that lets verified students list, discover, and transact on secondhand items (“Listings”), food from student-run stores (“Campus Food”), and tickets to student-organised events (“Events”). UniSell is not a party to the underlying transaction between a buyer and a seller, food store, or event organiser — we provide the platform, payment facilitation, and escrow mechanics described below, but the seller, store, or organiser is solely responsible for the item, food, or event itself: its accuracy, quality, safety, legality, and fitness for purpose.
3. Listings & orders
When you buy a Listing, payment is held by UniSell until you confirm you've received the item (“Mark as received”), at which point the seller becomes entitled to that amount in their UniSell wallet. Only confirm receipt once you have actually received the item in the condition described. You are responsible for arranging and attending any in-person handover safely — UniSell strongly recommends meeting in a public, well-lit campus location, and is not responsible for what happens during a handover between users. Sellers must list items they genuinely own and can legally sell, and must describe them accurately. Prohibited items include (without limitation) anything illegal to sell or possess, counterfeit goods, weapons, alcohol, drugs, and anything a university's own rules prohibit on campus.
4. Payments & fees
Payments are processed by BillPlz, a licensed third-party payment gateway; UniSell does not store your card or banking details. On Listing purchases, a platform fee applies on top of the item price (5% of the order amount, with a minimum of RM0.50), shown to you before you pay. This fee is not refundable once a transaction completes, except where UniSell agrees to a refund at its discretion or as required by law. When and how refunds happen is set out in our Refunds and disputes page, which forms part of these Terms.
5. Wallet & withdrawals
Funds owed to you as a seller are held in a UniSell wallet balance, not a bank account or e-money instrument, and do not earn interest. You may request a withdrawal to your own bank account at any time; withdrawals are reviewed and paid out manually by UniSell and are not instant. UniSell may request additional information to verify a withdrawal request (including that the receiving bank account belongs to you) and may delay, decline, or reverse a withdrawal it reasonably believes to be fraudulent or made in error.
6. Campus Food
Campus Food lets students order from other students' food stores. UniSell reviews new stores before they go live, but this review is not a food safety inspection or certification, and UniSell makes no guarantee about hygiene, ingredients, allergens, or food safety practices at any store. Buyers with dietary restrictions or allergies should confirm directly with the store before ordering. Food stores are independently responsible for complying with any applicable food handling and safety laws.
7. Events
Events are organised by other students or student groups, not by UniSell. UniSell is not responsible for an event's planning, safety, cancellation, or conduct — that responsibility rests with the organiser. UniSell holds ticket money until 48 hours after the event and refunds every ticket in full if it is cancelled; the rules for postponements and problems are in Refunds and disputes.
8. Identity verification
To buy, sell (including listing items, opening a food store or posting an event) or message on UniSell, you must verify your identity by uploading a photo of your student ID and a selfie for review by UniSell. You can only buy from or message other verified users. These photos are used solely to confirm your identity, are seen only by UniSell’s admins, and are permanently deleted once your verification is approved or rejected, as set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Your content
You retain ownership of the photos, descriptions, and other content you post on UniSell. By posting content, you grant UniSell a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute it on the platform for as long as your listing, store, or event remains active. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to post what you post, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
10. Prohibited conduct
You agree not to: use UniSell for anything illegal; post fraudulent, misleading, or fake listings, stores, or events; attempt to circumvent UniSell's payment or fee system (e.g. arranging payment off-platform to avoid fees); harass, threaten, or discriminate against other users; attempt to access another user's account; or interfere with the platform's normal operation (including scraping, reverse engineering, or attempting to bypass its security).
11. Suspension & termination
UniSell may suspend or terminate your account, remove content, or cancel a pending transaction if we reasonably believe you've violated these Terms, engaged in fraud, or put other users at risk. Where reasonably possible, we'll tell you why. You may stop using UniSell and request your account be closed at any time; any wallet balance owed to you at that point remains withdrawable subject to Section 5.
12. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
UniSell is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. To the maximum extent permitted by law, UniSell's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the platform is limited to the fees UniSell actually received from you in the transaction giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Malaysian law.
13. Privacy
UniSell collects the information needed to run the platform: your email address, university and profile details, listings and transaction records, messages between users, event attendee details, payout details, and the identity photos used for verification (deleted once reviewed). This information is used to operate UniSell, process payments, prevent fraud, and communicate with you, and is handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Our Privacy Policyexplains what's collected, who sees it, how long it's kept, and your rights over it.
14. Changes to these Terms
UniSell may update these Terms from time to time, for example as new features (like Campus Food or the wallet) are added. If we make a material change, we'll post the updated Terms here with a new “Last updated” date, and where practical, notify you directly. Continuing to use UniSell after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and any dispute arising from them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Malaysian courts.
